Design public seating for the new WA Museum upgrade by Hassell and OMA.
How Nudi Helped
We researched the visual language of the new extensions and the heavy local historical and natural influences of the museum. We looked at the use of seating in public spaces: the idea of making users comfortable but not for too long, bringing people together in a more social way than individual islands. We also looked at more practical concerns such as the resilience, ease of cleaning, minimisation of weight, ergonomics, ease of manufacture and minimisation of weight.
Our final design is inspired by Banksia flowers stacked in a pile. We created CAD models, selected fabrics and foam to create a refined design ready for prototyping.
